I need some kind of advice

Do you develop a new understanding of programming the more you do it? It's similar to how people say you develop a new understanding when driving a car, or like the new "instinct" that develops in a shooter game. I'm currently learning Python and I'm really getting frustrated sometimes, because what's the point of knowing the position of an index, for example? Why am I learning that? Will I ever need all those calculations?
